The Boeing B-17F was the first Flying Fortress to be mass produced. The most famous machine from this range was the B-17F-10-BO made by Boeing that was delivered on 15th July 1942 and went into service with 324 Bomber Squadron 91 Bomber Group in Bassingbourn, England. Its fame resulted from the fact that it was officially the first US Army Air Force bomber to survive 25 missions in Europe and became the star of a Hollywood propaganda film. After this mission the Memphis Belle and its crew was ordered back to the USA. In 2004 the B-17F underwent a complete restoration and today the Memphis Belle is again accessible to the public.
